The Martinez family’s culinary journey began over a century ago in Austin, Texas, with Delfino Martinez, who sold homemade tamales and pralines from pushcarts outside the State Capitol. Delfino’s passion led to the opening of El Original Restaurant in 1922, marking the start of a Tex-Mex dynasty that continues to thrive today.
In 1952, Delfino’s son, Matt Martinez Sr., founded Matt’s El Rancho Restaurant in Austin, further solidifying the family’s reputation for authentic Tex-Mex cuisine. Building on this legacy, Matt Jr. and Estella expanded into the DFW area with Matt’s Rancho Martinez, becoming a favorite destination for delicious food and warm hospitality.
Today, the tradition lives on with Matt III and his son Thomas at the helm, proudly maintaining the family’s dedication to quality and community.
“Forty years is a testament to the love and loyalty of our guests, who have truly become part of our extended family,” said Matt III. “We are so grateful to celebrate this milestone with the community that has supported us every step of the way.”
The Martinez family’s contributions to the culinary world have been recognized with numerous accolades, including historic inductions into the Texas Restaurant Hall of Honor: Matt Sr. in 1986, Matt Jr. in 2000, and Estella Martinez in 2019 – the first father, son, and wife trio to receive the honor.
To commemorate the 40th anniversary, Matt’s Rancho Martinez invites the community to join in year-long festivities, featuring special promotions, limited-time dishes, and celebratory events honoring the restaurant’s legacy. Guests can look forward to iconic dishes like the famous Bob Armstrong Dip and signature enchiladas – served with the same dedication to quality that has defined the Martinez family for generations.
